GETTING POPULAR I sort of feel like I bin sproutin' wings; But it ain't that-I just bin learnin' things. The blue-eyed girl that's always lived next door Told me today that she ain't mad no more About the horny toad I dropped into Her lap the other day. I never knew She would be mad. Gee, whiz! She turned an’ she Just give one yell an' climbed allover me A-gittin' to the house; an' for a week Although I hung around she wouldn't speak An' then Sophonisba moved in next door, An' now Blue Eyes says she ain't mad no more. An' she just acks so anyone can see Without half lookin' that she's glad with me; An' Sophonisba, she just gits the grins An' snuggles closer when Blue Eyes begins To set close to me when we're on the fence, An' I set there like I ain't got no sense; An', I declare, I don't know what to say When they both nudge ag'inst me that away! But Sophonisba doesn't care for me- She only nudges up for deviltry; An' she just scrooges up an' never stirs With that wide grin on that big mouth of hers. But she's some kid! You bet she makes things hum- I wish I'd kep that toad until she come! Just because she likes me a little bit Is the whole reason I made such a hit With Blue Eyes. Say, the girls are all that way! When someone else makes eyes at you then they Git after you theirselves. I wish I knowed The hidin' place o that ol’ horny toad- I like Blue Eyes just like I did before, But she lost me that toad-that makes me sore! 'F I had some bait I'd maybe trap it yet; I wish I knowed what it was horn toads et. |
