You Ain't No Rose

You ain't no rose! I'll tell the world you ain't no bloomin'

rose!

But you have got what roses ain't. You've got a squidgy nose

Right in the middle of your face, and you've got goo-goo eyes,

And you've got hands that wave around like little butterflies

Whatever way they feel like, and that never can be still,

Though you lie there a-watchin' of 'em hopin' that they will;

And when your rose-leaf feet come up out of your filmy

clothes

And wave around, I'll tell the world, I'm glad you ain't no

rose!

You ain't no rose! I'll tell the world you ain't no rose a-tall!

The neighborhood'll say you ain't when you wake nights and

squall;

And when I've tumbled out of bed and wrapped you warm

an' tight,

And I've walked forty-leven miles with you across the night,

And I look down to see if you're asleep like you should be,

Your eyes are like two buttons the way they look up at me;

And then you grin a toothless grin, until I can't feel sore,

And I am glad you woke me up. And then we walk some

more!

You ain't no rose! If all the roses in the world was bunched

in one

They wouldn't be one-half as sweet as you, or half the fun!

You ain't no rose-A rose can't kick its heels and laugh and

play;

You're all the sweetnesses and loves of life in one bokay!

And now, the dishes has been washed and here your mother

comes-

There must be somethin' mighty sweet about them squidgy

thumbs-

She's gonna feed you now and hold you tight ag'in her

breast-

I hope you'll love your mother most-and love your dad the

best!
